So, now that you know what is going on, there are a few things which you will need to complete before we can go on the Cape to Cape trail.
There are four tasks that you will need to do and what you learn from doing these tasks will be enhanced even more when we are on the actual hike.
Lets get this thing on the trial…
Task 1: Prepare an environmental talk.
During the lesson on flora, fauna and weather you will be given a topic that you will need to research. In effect, you will be the expert on that particular animal or plant. So you maybe called upon at any time. So, be prepared and know your topic! Task 2: Prepare a gear list.
Before we can go on the trail we need to look at what equipment to bring and how to pack it into you pack. You will be carrying everything you require, so it is important that you only take what you need.
To acheive this each of you are required to prepare a list of all the gear (items) you will be taking with you on the hike. I DO MEAN EVERYTHING. Included in the list you will have show the weight of each item and the combined weight of all your gear.
Task 3: Prepare a menu
A happy eater is a happy camper!
This is one of the most important things you can do before a trip. It is vital that you know what type of food to bring and how much.
Task 4: Display appropriate level of map reading and basic compass skills.
Navigation is one of the cornerstones for outdoor education. You will need to know all about maps and why they are important as well as a basic understanding of compasses.
Your theory will be put to the test on the hike as we will always need to know where we are.
